Microblading: Preparation and Aftercare for Your Eyebrows

All women can agree that microblading is the miracle they never knew they needed in terms of eyebrow care. The procedure leaves you with perfect eyebrows that require no upkeep at all. You end up with natural-looking eyebrows and forget about spending hours in the mirror every morning. However, how you prepare for this procedure and care for your eyebrows after can make a huge difference in the results. Of course, your choice of a beautician also matters. But once you have taken care of that, it all comes down to your preparation and aftercare.

Preparation

The most important thing is to choose a skilled microblading artist. Eyebrows aid in micro-expression, and they also contribute to how you look. And considering the permanency of this procedure, it is only right to work with the right technician. When researching Del Mar spa studios, narrow your search by checking certification and reputation.

Once you have found your technician and scheduled your consultation, there are certain things you will need to do in preparation for the procedure. Some of them include:

  • Avoid tweezing or waxing your eyebrows 3 to 7 days before the procedure
  • Avoid acne or anti-aging creams
  • Avoid any type of facial procedure like Botox two weeks prior to the procedure.
  • You should not have a sunburned face on the day of the procedure.
  • Avoid certain medications such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and niacin two days before the procedure
  • Avoid doing any heavy work or exercising on the day of the procedure
  • Do not take caffeine and alcohol one day before the procedure

Besides all these instructions, here are some extra tips that will come in handy.

Talk to the Artist

Be clear about the shape and color you are looking for. It is important to know whether what you want can be achieved. In return, also be open to listening to the technician. The brow shape you want may not be ideal for your face shape.

Comes With Photos

If there is a certain shape you desire, download it on your phone and show the artist. It is still okay if you are not sure what you want. The artist has the experience and will know which shape is right for you.

Be on Time

Show up for the procedure on time. You want the artist to have enough time to achieve desired results. In addition, it is also respectful because there might be other clients waiting as well.

After Care

During treatment, the doctor will apply topical anesthesia to reduce the pain. The procedure can take about an hour, but it also depends on a technician. After the procedure, you will be given a list of instructions to follow to aid your healing. Here is a general overview of what to do:

  • Avoid applying makeup for a week anywhere near the eyebrow as the area is still actively healing.
  • Avoid getting the area wet.
  • As you heal, you may notice some scabs. Do not pick them.
  • Minimize sun exposure the first four weeks after the procedure
  • Avoid swimming, saunas, or intense activities that can lead to sweating
  • Apply the medicated cream as advised by the technician to aid in the healing process.
  • Avoid alcohol. Alcohol tends to affect wound healing. Microblading is tattooing the eyebrows, meaning it leaves a wound. If you want to heal faster, avoid alcohol until properly healed.

Microblading lasts anywhere between 1 and 2 years or longer. The quality of the job done will influence the results. This just shows how important it is to pick a skilled artist. If you follow the instructions of the artist, you should be fine.

Once you have healed, you can apply sunscreen to the area to help your eyebrows retain color. Also, note that you may need to go for a touch-up 4 to 8 weeks later to finalize the procedure.
